The Hot Potatoes version 6
suite includes six applications, enabling you to create
interactive multiple-choice, short-answer,
jumbled-sentence, crossword, matching/ordering and
gap-fill exercises for the World Wide Web. Hot Potatoes
is not freeware, but it is free of charge for those
working for non-profit-making educational institutions,
who make their pages available on the web. You need to
download the Hot Potatoes and
apply for a
registration key. Then you can create interactive
exercises off line. Version 6 supports the Chinese
language.

QuizStar is a FREE
web-based program. You can create an online class,
develop quizzes, assign quizzes to that class, and track
students' performance from automatic reports. You can
set multiple choice, true/false, and short answer
questions and attach media files to your questions and
answer choices.

Interactive Exercise
Makers includes 1) GlossMaker (to provide on-line texts
with annotations or glosses), 2) ClozeMaker (to create
fill-in/cloze exercises), 3) two MatchMakers (to create
two-column matching exercises), 4) MultiMaker (to create
multiple choice exercises), 5) three PlaceMakers (to
create drag and drop exercises where students match
vocabulary words with specific locations in an image),
6) OrderMaker (to create sentence part re-ordering
exercises), and 7) MemoryMaker (to create exercises
where students "flip" tiles over and try to remember
which one it matches with). You need to create exercises
with these Makers online and upload your exercises to
their website.
With Script-O! teachers
can create various types of online quizzes, tests,
assessments and questionnaires. The program can allow
you to design multiple-choice quizzes with the option of
having more than one correct answer, matching tests
(word to word, sentence to word, definition to word),
and cloze and gap-fill exercises. Script-O! can also
send quiz results to any specified email address(es) for
review.

The Study Place is an
online authoring tool that allows teachers without
programming skills to create online learning activities,
quizzes and entire courses, including maintaining
student records. The types of quizzes include multiple
choice quizzes, true/false quizzes, and cloze exercises.
This program allows teachers to record and view
students' progress and portfolios.

Charles Kelly's Online
Quiz Generator includes 1) Multiple-Choice Quiz and 2)
Bilingual Vocabulary Quiz. Though some of the quizzes
generated here can only be used on their website, others
can be put on your own website.
This site provides links
to a number of web-assisted language learning and
teaching tools that can help you make interactive
activities, including multiple-choice questions, cloze,
sentences from scrambled words, gloss makers, etc.
This program can 1) import
a student's text for marking by pasting from the
clipboard or directly from an RTF or text file, 2)
provide a variety of tools that a teacher needs to mark
and annotate the text, and 3) export the marked text as
an RTF file for loading into a word-processor or as a
webpage so that students can view the marked text in a
web browser. It also has a comprehensive Statistics
analyzer, which can collate and compare marks from
different students or from different pieces of work by
the same student.
